The Marysville School District is deeply saddened for our students and community by the failure of the Capital Levy 2020 measure. A successful measure would have replaced Liberty Elementary School (1951) and Cascade Elementary School (1955), two of our oldest schools in the district. The measure would have also helped to build community by creating modern, safe, and efficient schools for students. We know that overall our Marysville and Tulalip community wants better schools. We also recognize the tax burden that new measures can place on a community. Unfortunately, local property taxes are the only way for school districts to obtain money to build or replace schools. The District wants to thank the many of you who supported this important measure. Thanks and appreciation also goes to the Citizens for Marysville Schools who worked so hard in support of our students and the school district.
At this time we are not certain of our next steps in our quest to replace outdated school facilities. We know that students and staff alike, along with our community take pride in new schools and we will continue in our quest to build community and earn the trust and support of our community taxpayers.
