Marysville School District and Everett Community College team up to engage, inspire and prepare students for a successful future

MARYSVILLE, Wash. – Early exposure to career options is becoming increasingly important for student success. The Marysville School District, in partnership with the region’s leading educational institutions, civic organizations and businesses will host their annual Opportunity EXPO on Feb. 27.

Now in its sixth year, the “My Future, My Choice” EXPO is a dynamic college and career-readiness event for students across Snohomish County. The EXPO provides students with direct access to 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities, technical and trade schools and military and civic organizations. Students also have the opportunity to meet and network with community leaders from business, government and nonprofit groups throughout Washington state and beyond.

This year’s sponsors include The Tulalip Tribes, Everett Community College, Washington State University North Puget Sound at Everett, Everett University Center, Junior Achievement of Washington, Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce and the Marysville Rotary and Rotary Education Foundation.

The Opportunity EXPO is held at the Everett Community College (EvCC) campus and includes tours of EvCC's Advanced Manufacturing Training & Education Center (AMTEC), Washington State University Everett and the EvCC campus. These tours show students the many opportunities available to them right in their own community and region.

"We look forward to another year of welcoming students from Marysville and Tulalip to Everett Community College,” said EvCC President David Beyer. “Today’s economy demands a highly educated workforce with a sophisticated and transferable set of skills. Together, with the Marysville School District, we are equipping students with the knowledge and tools they need to build successful careers and prepare for the future that awaits them.”

“The Opportunity EXPO is an inspiring day for Marysville School District students and our community partners,” said Acting Superintendent Jason Thompson. “Showing our students their options and providing the resources needed to find their passion is an important part of helping them reach success. We are thankful to Everett Community College and our wonderful local community organizations for their ongoing efforts to show our students that anything is possible.”

All high school juniors in the Marysville School District will be bused to the EvCC campus on Feb. 27 to attend one of two sessions. More than 100 colleges, career, technical and trade vendors, as well as business, community service and military representatives will be present.

Schools and companies interested in participating or sponsoring the event should contact Jodi Runyon at 360-965-0001 or Jodi_Runyon@msd25.org. Learn more about the event at www.msd25.org/opportunity-expo-2018
