Students See State-Qualifying Success in Spring Sports

This spring, six student-athletes from Marysville have competed or will compete in the prestigious Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) State competitions, boldly representing Marysville on a platform that showcases the best high school athletes in the state.

Msvl. WA—As spring sports wrap up, we are taking a moment to congratulate and showcase six high school student-athletes on their hard work and dedication, which enabled them to compete in the WIAA State competitions in their sport.

Marysville Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell High Schools sent athletes to the 3A WIAA State Track and Field Meet held yesterday, May 23, through Saturday, May 25, at the Mount Tahoma High School Stadium in Tacoma, Washington. Gianna Frank, a senior from Marysville Pilchuck, will compete in the Girls' Shot Put this morning and in the Girls’ Discus Throw on Saturday afternoon. Later today, 10th-grade Maya Velasquez, also from MPHS, will compete in the Girls’ High Jump. Marysville Getchell senior Shawn Etheridge will compete tomorrow in the Boys’ Long Jump. At the District 1 Track and Field Championships, Shawn’s jump distance of 21 feet and 9.75 inches earned him second place.

Tulalip Heritage High School seniors Lincoln Pablo and Tieriana McLean had fantastic golf seasons, leading them to Tumwater, Washington, for the 1B/2B WIAA State Golf Championships on Tuesday, May 21, and Wednesday, May 22. Tieriana placed 19th after qualifying for both days of the competition, and Lincoln tied for 38th place on Tuesday. The Tulalip Heritage Hawks Golf Team is only in its second year.

During his successful season, Brody Maddock, a Marysville Getchell High School junior, qualified for the 3A WIAA State Golf Championship. Brody placed in the top 10 at the 3A District 1 Boys Golf Tournament, which brought him to Lacey, Washington, for the State Championship on Tuesday, May 21.

The Marysville School District and its schools are incredibly proud of these student athletes’ accomplishments.
